Official Press Release on December 18, 2021.
I want to publicly announce my intention to run for State Representative of the 42nd District, Position #2 (vacated by Sharon Shewmake).
After much thought, counsel, and prayer, I have decided to run for State Representative. As I start this journey, I am excited and encouraged by the overwhelming support from my family, friends, and community. I am passionate about helping people and look forward to continuing to serve the people of Whatcom County.
I have had the privilege of serving as the Mayor of Sumas over the last four years. Our citizens and businesses have been severely impacted by the three floods and the impacts of Covid-19 during that time. I have done everything I can to help provide leadership, support, and encouragement during these difficult times we have faced together. I have seen volunteers, organizations, businesses, first responders, and City staff go above and beyond the call of duty, time and time again. Some even risked their own lives doing emergency rescues and evacuations during the peak of the flood. As my term as Mayor expires in just a few weeks, I am filled with emotions as I step away from my current role. I have been able to be a small part of something special. Our community has bonded together, stayed strong, and helped each other during every crisis that has come our way. Like many of you, I have experienced sorrow, grief, and anxiety as I have comforted people breaking down and crying because of the devastation that has happened to them. I have also experienced a lot of joy, gratitude, and thankfulness. There are so many good memories and accomplishments that we have achieved together.
There is much work that still needs to be done. As your next State Representative, I want to continue to work hard for everyone in Whatcom County. I won't just work for you; I will work with you. Would you please consider donating or volunteering to help my campaign? Let's make a difference together!
Thank you for being so supportive. I look forward to serving you.

Official press release 1/18/2022

Hello friends and neighbors, my name is Kyle Christensen! I wanted to update you on my campaign to be your next State Representative.

First, here are a few things about me:

I served as the Mayor of Sumas from 2018-to 2021. I was humbled to come alongside and help those in our community as we went through 3 major floods during my term. I will continue to advocate for permanent solutions to address and reduce the flooding in our area. I will also continue to work hard to find support for the individuals and businesses that have been affected by the floods. Building two new playgrounds and a splash pad were some projects I enjoyed being a part of, and I am hopeful for brighter days ahead as we gather again for community events. I appreciate the relationships I have built with other elected officials over the last four years and look forward to continuing to work with them for the people of Whatcom County.

I have been serving as a volunteer firefighter for the last 25 years. This has been a great opportunity to serve the communities I have lived in. I will always look for ways to support our First Responders.

I was a Corrections Deputy for Umatilla County Sheriff's Office for about six years. I support our law enforcement and appreciate the difficult job that they have to do.

I grew up on a family dairy farm. I understand the important role that local farms play in our economy and county. With increased costs and regulations, it is becoming more and more difficult for them to stay in operation.

I have learned a lot and believe these experiences would help make me a great Representative for our District.

Over the past few weeks, I have built a great campaign team to help me on this journey. We are filled with excitement and enthusiasm! I am looking for citizens and businesses willing to invest in the future of Whatcom County by investing in my campaign. With your help and support, I would be honored to have the opportunity to represent you in Olympia.

Here is how you can help me:

1. Contribute to my campaign. Please click on the attached link to donate now. https://www.efundraisingconnections.com/c/KyleChristensen, or you can mail your contribution (starting at $10 and up to $2,000, which is the PDC limit) to:

Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas! I hope your day is filled with joy, love, and laughter as you spend time with your friends and family. Our family just got done reading about the real meaning of Christmas in Luke 2:1-20. I love spending time reading and singing with my family. We will continue to pray for those families that have recently lost loved ones struggling this holiday season.

Fundraising Speech

I had an opportunity to speak at the Fire House Event Center in Bellingham last week. This was a fundraiser to support the local flood victims after the two floods in November. I will continue to look for any opportunities to help fundraising efforts. I will also look for permanent solutions to help keep our friend's and neighbors' homes and businesses from flooding again.
